Ave atque Vale!

Dear Readers,

This is to announce the death of Fulvius. The link below explains why the death occurred:
Fulvius' Last Comment.

I fear that since the pseudonym has been compromised, my continued use of it could cause embarrassment to the LRA and, more especially, to my wife. I wish to avoid this and, therefore, Fulvius is no more.

Appeal for information following Outwood fraud
East Surrey CID is appealing for information following a fraud offence in Outwood where a woman in her 80s was conned out of cash and jewellery.

The victim received a telephone call at around 7pm on Thursday, 23 April from a man claiming to be police officer from a London station. The caller claimed that a man was in custody suspected of using the victim’s credit cards and urged her to collect all her cash, bank cards and valuables before putting them in a bag for a courier to collect.

Later that evening a man arrived at the property in a taxi and collected the bagged items before leaving the scene on foot. Officers believe the taxi driver who bought the man to the victim’s property may not have realised what was happening and are appealing for him to come forward. If he would like to provide information anonymously this can be done through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The suspect is described as black, in his late teens and of slim build.
PC Jen Bilton, said: “Crimes of this nature where offenders target elderly or vulnerable people are simply inexcusable and I would like to take this opportunity to remind people to help us spread the message about these offences.

“Unfortunately, fraudsters often purport to be police officers and are therefore extremely convincing to their victims. They often feel ashamed or embarrassed about falling for these scams and they shouldn’t.

“I ask all victims to report such offences to Surrey Police as we need to catch these criminals.”

Officers are releasing images of a number of items of jewellery which were taken during the offence and they would like to hear from anyone who has seen or been offered these items for sale. Enquiries are being carried out at pawn brokers and other second hand shops where jewellery is bought/sold as part of the investigation.

Anyone who can assist officers with their investigation is urged to contact Surrey Police quoting reference 45150033641. Information can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Airspace change trial at Ockham Holding Stack

We have just been informed that an airspace change trial will be held between 30 April-30 September 2015 on the operation of the Ockham stack.

The Ockham stack is one of four areas where aircraft are held at busy times awaiting landing space at Heathrow Airport.  Aircraft held in the stack fly an elongated circular pattern extending as far south as Dorking and as far east and west as Ashtead and Little Bookham respectively. The area can contain up to nine aircraft ‘stacked’ vertically at 1000ft intervals from a base of 7,000ft.  Further details are given in the attached fact sheet and flight maps.

The trial will test the use of performance based navigation techniques (PBN, sometimes called PRNAV) for operating the stack as a replacement for the ground-based beacon at Ockham that currently guides aircraft into the holding pattern.

National Air Traffic Services (NATS) who are conducting the trial say it is not expecting any perceptible change on the ground because the position and height of the stack is not changing, and a similar trial at another stack at Biggin Hill has not resulted in flightpath concentration.

However, if any residents are disturbed by aircraft noise as a result of the trial, please let me know and/or advise them to register a complaint to Heathrow Airport by emailing noise@heathrow.com or using the complaint form on the Heathrow Airport website at: http://www.heathrowairport.com/noise/what-you-can-do/make-a-complaint-about-noise .

Yours faithfully
