  1. Waitrose at last! - and an end to the Sainsburys monoply in the town centre. Regeneration here we come as long as Hague's other rents don't escalate. Mike M.

  3. who said its Waitrose?
Remember they were going to develop the Ashtead site then sold it to TESCO.
Don't forget people actually live in Leatherhead and above the proposed development.
Have any of the recent developments introduced by Hague or MVDC actually improved anything apart from their own bank balance?

  4. We would love to have a waitrose or an M&S simply food for that matter.

  5. What are the propsed opening hours - will MVDC restrict there? What considerations have been given to traffic management (extra parking, double parking, congestion around the junction with The Cresent etc)? What about the impact on the local market traders?

  6. I have no doubt that very many people will welcome a Waitrose in Leatherhead. But is this the appropriate site for it? LocalResident has highlighted problems of congestion & parking. This part of Church Street is a cul-de-sac between 10.30 and 4.30. Also there's the problem of deliveries. This has been a long standing issue with residents who live in the neighbourhood of Sainsbury's and, indeed, is still unresolved. Are the residents of Montague house to be subjected to similar nuisance for many years to come?
IHow does the Waitrose proposal fit into any overall plan for the Street? Or is it another ad hoc development? Will mistakes of the past be avoided or repeated yet again.
I think the whole proposal needs ver careful consideration.

  7. The nature of Leatherhead's one way system will make any proposals difficult. However, that should not halt much needed investment in Leatherhead. This could be the catalyst to other chain groups investing in Leatherhead and might return the centre to its former glory of some 30 years ago when the high street was thriving and well known names were competing to open in Leatherhead.

  8. These are already retail units so no change of use involved. Any planning application would be for signage, shopfronts and perhaps deliveries.

Difficult to oppose on planning grounds and as has been said this would be regeneration of empty units and improved choice.

Waitrose do appear to be going for smaller stores in towns where they lack presence eg. Walton on Thames.

Unlikely to be Tesco but cannot be ruled out.

  9. Doubt it is a big enough premises. More likely to be Simply M&S!! Whatever the area of Church Street and The Crescent has become one glorified industrial estate as it is, so who cares!
