The current material seems to dwell on the formation of the LRA but doesn't really make it obvious how the Association can help and how it hopes to influence the local bodies. We should state quite clearly that the LRA monitors & comments on:
- control of building and development
- preservation of buildings, trees and open spaces
- road safety and traffic matters
- footpaths and rights of way
- schools in our area
- public transport
- recreation facilities
- law and order.
Comments from the committee welcome.
Posters detailing the LRA should be more prominent around town. These should be posted on all public notice boards.
ReplyDeleteThis is a valid observation. The former Leatherhead Society's website did have an "About us" page; this needed changing and was temporarily removed. I will endeavour to update this and put it back online.
ReplyDeleteThe reason for emphasis on formation of LRA is because there was considerable confusion at the time, since it appeared to some people that Leatherhead had two rival residents' associations and we wished to clarify the position.
I think that for most potential new members, there is no confusion - they do not know that the LSoc existed.
ReplyDeleteThe front page is our shop window. We need to attract visitors to the LRA with some convincing arguments. Tell them what we do, how we can help & what we are aiming for. Keep it simple and easy to read. By all means have a link to the history of the LRA.
A prominent link to joining the LRA is essential; offer a number of different methods to join; printing off the form, email, web form etc.
I agree that last membership form has become out of date, and recently has only been used to use up the forms we had printed.
ReplyDeleteThe latest membership form, which has just been printed, does have a description of what the LRA does, and hopefully why someone should join and also what a road steward is expected to do.
Only 1000 copies printed incase we want to change something next time.
Marketing / publicity is the key thing we need to focus on.
