Local Concerns:
ReplyDeleteOne of my neighbours pointed out dangers for pedestrians from mobilty scooter users in front of Lidl. There is a bus shelter & a lamp post in close proximity. Scooters can fit through the gap however, folks in the bus shelter are unsighted due to the advertisiing hoarding at the end of the shelter. People waiting for a bus will not see the scooter appraoching and may stray into it's path with injury inevitable. My neighbour contacted the authorities, however there is no money in the budget to change things. The council seem unconcerned that they would be open to legal action should an accident happen. Perhaps the LRA Highways Subcommittee could take at look at this.
I realise that Mobility Scooters were on the agenda last time, but because the committee is shy at releasing draft minutes of meetings we do not know what was discussed.
Local Concerns:
ReplyDeleteA town centre resident has contacted the LRA regarding the parking situation on Epsom Road. Could a Committee member summarise the current status of this problem ? Newer members may not be aware of the history of the Epsom Rd saga. The LRA website does not have a full set of meeting minutes available & so it is difficult for people to look at what has been said in the past.
AOB:
ReplyDeleteIs the LRA still affiliated to the Civic Trust?

ReplyDeleteLRA has been pushing Surrey CC over this matter for some time. Parking along main roads in Leatherhead has become a major issue - i.e also along Randalls Road, Gimcrack Hill and By-pass Road. Whilst safety is often quoted, funds for safety schemes are directed to those sites where accidents occur on a regular basis. Obvious danger sites, do not usually produce accidents, as people take more care. Real accidents occur where the danger is not obvious. However the parking problems are causing real congestion problems, and need to be tackled on those grounds.
The council can cone off the road as an emergency, but only for a limited time. Long term measures require legal notices, consultation etc. to obtain Orders under which offenders can be prosecuted. Without such orders the police can do nothing. This legal paperwork takes quite a long time and is not cheap. As the LRA gets going we shall be setting up lists of road schemes and trying to persuade both councils of the aspirations of our residents.
Why has St.Johns rd have been seemingly left out of the 'no cold callers' zone?!
ReplyDeleteWhat the latest plans if any, are for upgrading Leatherhead Hospital - as this will have an enormous impact on the residents.
If i could have a copy of the meeting notes/minutes or report for information afterwards, that would be great, then i can update some of my neighbours.

ReplyDeleteSir,
I do think the matter of car parking in the Epsom Road immediately to the north of the town centre needs to be addressed. I am sorry to raise such a prosaic matter but those parking there are causing great disruption and thumbing their noses at local residents and road users by parking, albeit legally, in a manifestly selfish way .
Sincerely
PB
